Macarena Moreno

BIO

Macarena Moreno Candel has a Higher Technician degree in Analysis and Quality Control in 2001 at the I.E.S Juan Carlos I Institute in Murcia. In 2004, she has been working in private industry where she conducted chemical and microbiology analyses of water. Since 2008, she joined the Quality and Safety Group at the CEBAS-CSIC where she carried out tasks related to disinfection of process wash water for the industry, testing the efficacy of disinfectants to inactivate pathogenic bacteria. She has also collaborated in different projects related to quality and safety of fruits and vegetables such as identifying pre and post-harvest factors involved in the enzymatic browning of fresh-cut lettuce and endive among others.

RESEARCH INTEREST

Currently, her activities are focused on the quantification and identification of foodborne pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes as well as other activities related to physicochemical characterization of process water and disinfection strategies for the fresh- cut industry. In addition, she is carrying out the analysis of water from wastewater treatment plants to detect the presence of SARS-COV-2.
