Jesús López Cañizares

BIO

Jesús López Cañizares got his degree in Biotechnology at the Faculty of Biology at the University of Murcia (Spain). During his studies, he worked as an Internal Student at the Department of Informatics and Computer Systems in the Faculty of Computer Science, specializing in Bioinformatics for one year. After his degree, he got a MsC in Bioinformatics at the Faculty of Biology. During his studies, he gained practical experience developing informatics tools for metagenomic analysis of data from Ion Torrent sequencing at the Biomedical and Bioinformatics Computing Platform at the Biomedical Research Institute of Murcia (IMIB). He has also taken part in various training courses in Metagenomics and Informatics. He is currently a PhD student in the research group of Microbiology and Quality of Fruits and Vegetables at the Food Science & Technology Department at the CEBAS-CSIC institute in Murcia. His research is overseen by his director, Ana Allende, and co-director Pilar Truchado.

RESEARCH INTEREST

Currently, his primary task is the metagenomic study and bioinformatic analysis of the resistome in astewater treatment plants, as well as evaluating the effectiveness of different disinfection treatments for the elimination of resistance genes in irrigation water.
